What's up dudes, havent posted in awhile because ive been kind of swamped with everything, and havent been feeling to hot. Movies of the week are The Social Network, Ex-Machina, and TV show Billions. Social Network is a David Fincher movie, written by Aaronb Sorkin, about the Facebook, as it was knonw, and the life of CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg. Its a really cool movie, not just for people who are into computers, but it details the start up business in general, and is portrays the early 2000’s very well. The dialouge, as with all Sorkin, is awesome, and all the speeches, comebacks, insults, and conversatiopns are written to perfection, however, soemthimes its too perfect as the dialpouge can sometimes sound forced and unauthentic. Furthermore, Jesse Eisenberg, who plays Zuckerberg, and the other actors give great performances. I dont like justin timberlake, but he doesnt really take away from the movie. Ex-Machina is a really cool movie about the creation of advanced artificail intelligence (robots). Full of suspense, really cool lighting, and camerawork, and great ideas (i dont know) The one part with the razorblade and the mirror is a total mindfuck, those who watch the movie will know what im talking about. Also, Issac Brook (edit, i mean Oscar Issac, Issac Brook is the frontman of modest mouse), the man who created the robot, Ava, is very convincing, and a character who at first i loved, then i hated, then i loved again. Furthermore, Ava is very cool and is revealed at the end to be a cold calculating murderous death machine at the end of the movie. Furthermore, how did she get all the way from the Yukon to a street corner in NYC on one charge? Finally, Ive been watching Billions, another Sorkin thing. Its a show about THe attorney genreal of New York, (Paul Giammati) trying to take down the extremely wealthy and charismatic hedge fund manager Bobby Axelrod (Damien Lewis) for insider trading. Cool vistas, acting is good, the dialouge is a bit unbelievable, as with social network and Sorkin. THe story twosts and turns, and the suppproting cast is great. Also theres alot of Metallica. (theyre Axelrod’s favorite band, and James Hetflied makes an appearcane). That brings me to my next topic, the tunes of the week. The Strokes, Tapes ‘n Tapes, Guns and Roses (!) and Zeppelin, and Slint. Last friday I went to a Neck Deep concert, then I came home and listened to the enterity of the Strokes discography, until 1.30. March 2 Music

These past few days I've been listening to America, a soft rock/folky group from the early 70's known for their hit Horse With No Name, but i Like all of their stuff. For starters, check out the album History, which is a greatest hits one, but aor's don't worry, the band was never about that album feel, and some of the songs sound ahead of their time, Woman Tonight, sounds like a mix of Chicago and Steely Dan, and Ventura Highway could be a hit today. I've also been listening to the album Daughters by the band daughters, which is a math rock band that sounds like Modest Mouse vocals mixed with the sound of two mountains hate fucking. The singing is real cool, and the guitars are good, and then the drums and bass are in great harmony. Drums are fast and heavy, and post chorus when the drums kick in, it is an absolute sonic assault of the best kind. Check them out if you want, if not, don't. Also, two good movies for the week: we have Walk Hard: the Dewy Cox Story, which is a rip on the biopic genre, focusing the satire on music documentaries. It stars the guy from Stepbrothers who isn't will ferrel. It's mainly a joke on Johnny cash, but it spoofs groups like the Beatles and the beach boys, and bob Dylan and elvis. One the best lines, had Elvis talking to an aspiring young musician: "Only two people in this world know Karate, the Chinese and Elvis. and one of them is me." The description of the movie is as follows. He changed music forever, slept with 411 women, fathered 36 children, and was addicted to every drug known to man. Next, Apocalypse Now. Everyone knows this movie, and most of you have probably already seen it, but give it another watch if you've got the time. The cinematography is near perfect, and the acting is magisterial, other than the obvious Martin Sheen and Marlon Brando (of the Godfather and other Copolla films, Kilgore, the helicopter captain, and the chef on the boat, deliver convincing, masterful performances. For those with limited time, just check out the scene  where the boat comes to a US outpost in the jungle, thats bridging to spits of jungle. "we build it up every day, and every night charlie knocks it down." The boat comes in in the middle of the night, and the jungle is lit up with flares and tracer rounds, the soldiers have gone insane, and are cutting down the jungle with mounted guns. Soldiers are jumping in the river to try to get to the boat, Sheen and Lance the surfer, who just dropped acid, go into the trenches in the fort and try to find the CO, but all they found were soldiers gone crazy, blasting hard rock music, and lighting up the night with the guns The scene is an audio and sonic masterpiece, with light and sound coming together to build a perfect sense that there is no order. Last band, Blue Oyster Cult. Most will know the song Don't Fear the Reaper, and maybe Burnin' for You, but if you're interested, delve into the older stuff. Especially Secret Treaties, the album. A pioneering record in the rock genre, it is really a sort of photo-metal, if thats a term, but the riffs are killer, lyrics are sort of silly, but fun, drums are cool, and the overall aesthetic is just fun. Great for car listening. Key songs are, Dominance Submission, and Flaming Telepaths (with a face melting keyboard solo) Also, video lesson for Sample in a Jar, by Phish is coming. New Guitar Lessons, Nirvana, Shellac, Zeppelin

Just made some new lessons last night, a few nirvana ones, Squirrel Song by Shellac, side note, if you haven't heard of shellac, check them out, they're a side project of Steve Albini, legendary producer/musician, headed Big Black, and Rapeman, and produced a huge bunch of albums, including In Utero. Enjoy. Oh yeah, also there's a lesson for Goin to California by Led Zep, a real good acoustic one, off of IV, was co written by page and plant, about Joni Mitchell, whom they both had sort of an obsession with. Siete, Bones New Ground, Baby

Today, Im posting the links to a real good skate video. Its published by the Bones wheel company. Its got some great skating, and really, really good music. Great blend of rock, punk, old skool hip hop. Its only about forty minutes, but its chock full of shredding and tunes. Looks like the full 37 min version from one channel got copyright deleted, so I'm posting links to part 1, 2 and 4, from another channel. (part 3 also got deleted.) Seis, Albums that Never Were

Check out this other page, Albums that Never Were. I don't know anything about the dude who runs it, but he's probably pretty cool. His name is sonicolve or something. He takes songs from limited editions or anniversary releases of albums, that weren't on the original album, or, were from a different band, and uses these outtakes to compile full, coherent albums that could have been. For example, he took songs released by George harrison, john Lennon, and Paul, after the Beatles broke up, songs like, My Sweet Lord, Cold Turkey, Band on the Run, and used them to make the album that would have followed abbey road, if the Beatles had stayed together. Its really cool, and i would recommend giving a few a listen. Highlights include SMiLE, beach boys, (in my opinion, this is the best beach boys album ever, including real releases. Its very experimental, and really ahead of its time.) Also, for Weezer fans, Songs From The Black Hole, (which most of you will know, was their planned second album, a space opera concept piece, that was canned, and eventually became Pinkerton.)

Post Quatro (first real one) RXP playlist

"Alright alright alright, " matthew mchounahey  Okay, I know i spelled that one wrong. Nevertheless, welcome to the first post of the rest of your life. Here is a real good playlist. Its a bunch of songs that received regular airplay on WRXP 101.9 New York in like 2010 maybe. It was a great alternative rock station that played new indie bands, stuff from the 90's and earlier classic rock. Great mix to listen to if you were a RXP listener, or just want some cool new music. Also, its a great playlist for the car, considering it came from a radio station. Some real standouts are, "Sometime Around Midnight," "The Great Defector," "Take Back the City." Enjoy.
